Young Ali - The Journey

Young Ali is a gifted emcee and he proves it with his first solo effort The Journey. Hailing from Chicago and representing LO LYFE Productions Young Ali is ready to claim his spot in Hip-Hop with this debut mixtape. Ali takes you on a journey indeed as he opens with "Footsteps" describing the road he has traveled to become the artist he is today. He goes on to open up even more and tends to delve into a vast array of emotions from the struggles of him and his Mom through a fatherless upbringing, his passion for Hip-Hop and desire to be the best, and a glimpse into his view of the world and all of its ills. On tracks like "Number 1" over J Cole's Blow Up beat you feel the hunger in Ali's voice as he drops clever lines describing why he strives to be number 1 on every verse he writes. While "I Want You" stresses the need for companionship "Heartbreak Hotel" explains why so many of us are probably too jaded by the past to ever have it truly. "Tears" is a great addition to this already outstanding body of work he drops a spoken word poem over the angelic voice of Maliy D (LO LYFE artist) that perfectly sets the mood for "Hurt Song" Produced by Nichi (CEO/Artist/Producer for LO LYFE) which samples Michael Jackson and has Ali dropping conscious bars about the state the world is in as well as poignant story that directly reflects the plight of us as a people and what we go through living in these inner cities everyday. The Journey closes out with "Greatness" Produced by Nichi which is a perfect way to end it as Ali speaks on what motivates him to continue on this Journey and strive to be the best emcee. The Journey features tracks with Stacks, Maliy D, Sincere Life, & Young Nichi and with 14 tracks and 2 bonuses its definitely worth the listen. Its a long road to travel but it seems like Young Ali is built for this Journey.
